Deputy Head Greenkeeper
Foyle Golf Centre is a family owned and managed parkland golf facility, located just 10 minutes from the vibrant Derry City in Northern Ireland and 15 minutes away from the unspoilt beaches of County Donegal.
We now have a vacancy for Deputy Head Greenkeeper due to our outgoing Deputy relocating back to England and would welcome enthusiastic applicants who are ready to take the next step in their career.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a progressively managed facility, and operate a wide range of machinery. Our own Head Greenkeeper will be available at BTME to discuss any questions you may have about the job or company.
Company background:
18 hole par 71 course with USGA spec sand based greens. Modern drainage system and continual investment in aeration and sand application to afford year round playability, catering mainly to members and local visitors.
9 hole par 3 pay and play course, maintained to the same high standard as the 18 hole.
Trackman driving range with 35 indoor bays all with touch screens and ball tracking technology, automatic tees and 7 acre outfield.
All tasks performed in house without any outside contractors – including spiking and aeration, sand application, digger work, reel grinding etc.
Full time mechanic employed with fully kitted workshop on site – allowing greens staff to focus on maintaining the golf courses and driving range.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
- Communicate daily with the Head Greenkeeper to efficiently plan work, taking into account resources available and prevailing weather conditions.
- Be the second person in command – and at times when the Head Greenkeeper is on leave you will be expected to temporarily take charge of the day or week’s tasks.
- Tractor driving and operating a wide variety of implements.
- Mowing of grass on all areas of the course and driving range.
- Spray application of plant protection products by all methods – boom sprayer, knapsack and UTV. Identification of pests and diseases with feedback given to Head Greenkeeper.
- Application of fertilisers; both liquid and granular.
- Set up the golf course, including changing holes, moving tee markers, indicating OOB, Drop zones and hazards.
- Renovate worn and damaged turf, for example overseeding, scarification, aeration, hollow coring and sand application where required.
- Performing daily machinery basic checks before use such as checking fluid levels, lubrication and subsequently washing before storage.
Person specification:

Minimum 5 years greenkeeping experience

Recognised industry qualifications

Spray certificates PA1, PA2, PA6

Full driving licence
